Students who achieve the required score in the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), organized by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), and who select our program, as well as international students who apply, vertical transfer students, intra-institutional transfer students, inter-institutional transfer students, and students applying for horizontal transfer based on central placement scores, will be admitted to the first education program of our department starting from the 2024–2025 academic year. Each year, an average of 25 students are admitted to the first education program of our department based on the results of the ÖSYM exams. Additionally, students from other universities with which we have protocol agreements will be accepted as temporary students for limited periods within the framework of the Farabi, Mevlana, or Erasmus exchange programs to study in our department.
In the Department of English Language and Literature, only the first (daytime) education program is conducted. The standard duration of the undergraduate program in the department is eight semesters, while the maximum duration is fourteen semesters.
The language of instruction for the undergraduate program is 100% English. Newly enrolled students in the department are required to attend the mandatory English preparatory class provided by our university's School of Foreign Languages. The standard duration of the English preparatory program is two semesters, with a maximum duration of four semesters. Students who exceed the maximum duration are not admitted to the department and are transferred by ÖSYM to a similar program with Turkish as the medium of instruction. Students who successfully complete the English preparatory program within the specified period are admitted as first-semester students in the undergraduate program.
Students who meet the necessary requirements within the framework of the Farabi, Mevlana, or Erasmus exchange programs can study for limited periods at domestic and international universities with which protocol agreements are in place.
To qualify for graduation from the program, certain requirements must be met. These include completing a minimum of 30 ECTS credits per semester for each compulsory and elective course in the curriculum (32 ECTS in the first semester for programs including the Career Planning course) and achieving a total of 240/242 ECTS credits over eight semesters. Additionally, students must not have any failing, incomplete, or insufficient grades, and their cumulative grade point average (GPA) must be 2.00 or higher.
Students who graduate from the first education program in the department are awarded a "Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature." Students who complete their required courses and fulfill the graduation requirements may graduate in a shorter period. Graduates are not granted any specific title. Students enrolling in the department in 2024 and beyond follow the "2024 Bologna ECTS-Aligned Curriculum for the Department of English Language and Literature." For students subject to this curriculum, the maximum number of courses they can take during the course registration process is determined by the ECTS credits of the courses. Grade point averages (*Semester Grade Point Average – **Cumulative Grade Point Average) are calculated based on the ECTS weighting of the courses.
